Throughout history, war has exacted an unacceptable toll on children and youth. Today, some 30 armed conflicts rage around the world, with children and youth suffering disproportionately. In the violence of war, children are murdered and wounded. They are abducted; used as soldiers, suffer sexual abuse and risk life threatening illness. They lose parents, friends and communities in conflict and during mass flight. Young people are compelled to take on adult roles, protecting and providing for younger children. Children lose opportunities to learn, and are denied the structure, stability and predictability they need to develop their potential. They ultimately lose their sense of trust and hope for the future.
Currently 20 million children and adolescents are uprooted from their homes either as refugees or internally displaced persons. In order to respond to this, the International Rescue Committee promotes the protection and development of children and youth, from the earliest stages of an emergency, through post-conflict and recovery. You can send a Gift donation to make the life of a child better.
Mercy Line Ministries is an independent, indigenous non-governmental organization with the prime mandate of providing an education -- formal or vocational -- to desperately poor and neglected orphans whose parents have died of AIDS. Mercy Line assists children with AIDS and widows that have lost their spouses to AIDS and most of them HIV positive themselves. Based on Christian Faith. Our aim is to reach all kinds and depths of HIV/AIDS afflicted people in both rural and urban communities through various means especially the teaching of the love and virtue of Jesus Christ. Orphan Placement Mercy Line Ministries moves children from the streets and War Scourged Areas of Norhtern Uganda [Gulu] into families. African culture has not traditionally institutionalized orphans. Mercy Line Ministries places a great value on placing children with foster families providing mother and/or fathers who care for them responsibly. Orphan Education Mercy Line Ministries supports children with direct school sponsorship funding, school admission and supplies to children who otherwise would be on the streets. These children receive not only an education but a safe mentoring atmosphere through school to help them grow and mature. For many Uganda children, the expense of the required uniform is enough to prevent them from attending school. We have many projects and visions you should know about and so we encourage you to navigate through pages and we pray you can find how to bless a life today. www.mercyline.org
